What is a defence contract?

A defence contract is a public contract to supply equipment, services, works or research to the Ministry of Defence, its agencies such as DE&S, Dstl and DIO, or another defence or security buyer. In the UK, contracts that are competed are advertised on the official Find a Tender service, often after earlier pipeline or market-engagement notices, and the result is published as a contract award notice.
